Statement from Softball South Australia

Published Mon 06 Feb 2023

Softball Australia and Softball South Australia understand the concerns of our valued community members about the discontinuation of the livestream broadcast of the Premier League Softball games.

In the first instance I wish to clarify that there has been no decision made to discontinue this service. Under the OneSoftball arrangement, Softball Australia manages the day-to-day financial operations in South Australia on their books and with that, takes on the risk associated with any profits or losses in South Australia. As a result there was some concern raised about the overall budget in the state which is looking at an overall deficit and streaming was identified as an item that had already run over budget for the financial year, with little revenue to support it. We have been working collaboratively with Softball Australia to find a solution to this concern. Unfortunately, a miscommunication led to the cancellation of the livestream last Saturday.

The Board of Softball South Australia wishes to confirm that the livestream broadcast service through Spacequake Sports will continue for the remainder of the 22/23 season, in a manner that is consistent with the sustainability of Softball SA.

We recognise these broadcasts have been, and continue to be, a valued platform in the engagement of supporters and the promotion of our much-loved sport, and the continuity of this service for future years will be a key strategic item for the Board of Softball South Australia in the months ahead.

We look forward to working with you, our key stakeholders, on how this is delivered beyond the 2022/23 season.

In the interim I would encourage our valued players, members and community to reach out to our Board if you have any questions or concerns.

A further statement will be provided in due course with a revised streaming schedule.

James Wilson

Chair, Board of Softball South Australia
