It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of David Taylor, a cherished member of the South Australian softball community and a true embodiment of the spirit of our sport.
David was a person whose dedication, integrity, and passion for softball left a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was hardworking, persistent, inclusive, and above all, deeply caring—qualities that not only defined his character but also inspired those around him.
David’s contributions to softball in the Riverland were profound. Faced with the challenge of four young boys ageing out of the women’s competition, David took it upon himself to create the first men's league in the region. His determination ensured these boys had the opportunity to continue playing, eventually representing South Australia at national championships.
As a coach and mentor, David led the Riverland men's team in the State Championships year after year, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment that drew players from across associations.
David also played a pivotal role in the Riverland Men's Masters team, where his leadership ensured that playing softball was about more than competition—it was about camaraderie, joy, and lifelong memories.
He never sought recognition for his efforts. Instead, he found fulfilment in creating opportunities for others and celebrating their successes. David was the kind of person every association hopes to have—an irreplaceable asset to our community and a role model for all.
His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the teams he built, and the spirit he brought to the game. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Riverland softball community.
Rest in peace, David. Your love for the game and the people in it will never be forgotten.
