National Volunteer Week - Jill Williams
National Volunteer Week has allowed for Softball SA to show our appreciation for our amazing, hard-working volunteers. Without their help, Softball competitions, clubs and organized events wouldn’t be what they are today.
As part of Softball SA’s National Volunteer Week celebration, we decided to chat with Jill Williams, our 2021 ‘Roo Weaver’ Volunteer of the Year, on her motivations and experiences in Softball.

Penny Causby - Softball Journey, Around The World
Little did Penny Causby know that supporting her daughter’s sporting interest would lead to an around the world softball journey.
It was 1987, when Jon Bon Jovi was living on a prayer, the Bangles were walking like an Egyptian, Captain Jean-Luc Picard took command of the Starship USS Enterprise and an all-time favourite movie, ‘The Lost Boys’ was released, which is when Penny’s daughter Sally made a simple request to play softball.
And from that early introduction, Penny began what turned out

Congratulations to all the teams that participated in the 2021 SA Masters Games on the Copper Coast.
2021 Dragons Camp Wrap
A total of 120 young softballers began arriving West Beach around 9:00am, anxious but excited to start this year’s Dragons Camp. Throughout the camp, players would be given the chance to improve their skills and knowledge, make new friends and challenge themselves to play at an even higher level.
South Australia To Host Under 23 And Open Women’s National Softball Championships
The Under 23s Women’s National Softball Championship will take place at Softball SA, West Beach, from the 14th to 19th of December 2021. While the event will take place in at the end 2021, competition will be played for the 2022 championship.
17 Year Winning Streak Broken
In a much deserved win, the Two Wells T-Birds Softball Club Inc. has taken home the Premiership in the Div1 Grand Final against Kangas Softball Club breaking a 17 year long winning streak.
Premier League Grand Final: Sturt Too Good
STURT IS THE 2021 Premier League softball flag-winners, after a comfortable 9-3 victory over Hills in Saturday night’s grand final.
There was a moment when an upset looked on the cards, when the Heat scored three fourth-inning runs to lead 3-2, but it was only an aberration, as Sturt played a solid all-around game and proved too strong.

Three In A Row For Demons
Everything went according to script in the Mount Gambier softball league grand final this weekend for minor premiers Demons, who made it 3 in a row with a resounding victory over Warriors Blue, 14 runs to 1.
Junior Athlete of the Year Announced
This year marks the 24th year that West Beach Parks have supported our annual Awards by putting their name to a perpetual trophy and providing a gift voucher for the State’s best Junior Athletes (one girl and one boy under 18 years).
Chairman Award - Jo Liddell
In a season that our sport needed more help off-field than ever before, we had a number of people give us tremendous support, for which we're very grateful... but none quite like Jo Liddell.
Jo was one of the first to offer her support to SSA when COVID-19 hit us, asking 'how can I help?'. Throughout the off-season Jo was making sure she was able to help the office, and the general community at large, she also ensured her club (Torrens Valley) and her association (Hills) were represented

Community Coach of the Year Award
The Softball SA Community Coach of the Year is someone who made a significant contribution to their team, club, association and/or State. This award recognizes the exceptional contribution made by a South Australian softball coach during 2020/21 season, with a focus on improving softball through encouraging participation, development, integrity and making softball more welcoming, safe, and inclusive.
